Welcome to the Virtual Membership Stand, inspiring the best in 4mm finescale modelling.
Hello and a very warm welcome to the virtual membership stand, I’m Steve Carter, the Scale four Society Membership Secretary. You may already be a member of the Scalefour Society or perhaps you are considering joining us? Either way thank you for your interest in the Scalefour Society today, I hope you are finding todays Virtual Scalefour North International 2021 both enjoyable and informative.
If you have any questions you would like to ask me then please drop an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and I will do my best to help.
One question we are often asked is “What is Scalefour?”
Well it is simply a concept of railway modelling to the most accurate standards, using a scale of 4 mm to 1 foot (1:76.2).
4mm scale is the same as used in 00 and EM gauge modelling but we promote the use of P4 track and wheel standards that use a scale track gauge of 18.83 mm, as compared to the 16.5 mm of 00 or the 18.2 mm of EM.
It’s not just about the P4 track and wheel standards, it’s also about promoting excellence and consistency your railway modelling – from research, locomotives and rolling stock to buildings, landscaping, track, signals, layout construction and operation.
The Society welcomes anyone interested in improving their modelling and we have members who work in various gauges using scales between 2mm to 10mm.
Some of the many benefits that membership of the Scalefour Society gives you include…
Scalefour News is a high-quality, professionally-printed journal produced for Society members. It contains up-to-date news and information on the Society’s and members’ activities; feature articles on modelling projects and techniques; letters – sometimes serious, sometimes irreverent; and reports on shows, products and other developments. Scalefour News is published five times a year.
Scalefour Stores supplies Society members with jigs, gauges, templates and other bits essential to 4mm finescale modelling. Products available include track-making components, scale wheels and vehicle compensation or springing equipment. Some are commercial items whilst others are manufactured exclusively for the Society and are not available from other sources.
New member support – when you first join the Society you will receive a New Member Pack and you will also hear from our Web team inviting you to register to use he Forum and gain access to the members area including the members only online store. We also have a New Member Support Officer who will make themselves know to you during the first few months of your membership just to see how things are and if there is anything you may need help with.
Scalefour Digest provides a comprehensive reference manual covering topics of interest to the serious modeller covering both prototype information and modelling techniques, including vehicle suspension, track construction and much more. New members receive a complete set of all current sections of the Digest on a CD. The digest is also available to members for download from our website.
Scalefour Society’s website can be found at https://www.scalefour.org/ and is packed with an array of information for both members and guests.
Scalefour Forum is a friendly and lively web forum where members talk to one another and share information across the world including on-line clinics and a ready exchange of an amazing range of know-how to help and inspire your modelling. For a taster of what is available please visit as a guest at https://www.scalefour.org/forum/ where you can view what’s going on and ask questions via our Guest Book.
Area Groups enable members to come together locally and benefit from guidance and encouragement from more experienced members as well as providing a social focus. There are many groups around the UK (and some overseas). Each Area Group is unique, with its makeup and activities depending entirely on its members and their own preferences. You will receive the current list of Area Group contacts with your New Member Pack.
Scalefour Society exhibitions are normally held annually. Scaleforum, the flagship show and one of the country’s leading conventions for 4 mm finescale modellers, is normally held on the last weekend of September. Scalefour North normally takes place in the Spring. We hope that these events will be back in the not to distant future. Both events feature top-quality operating P4 layouts, demonstrations and practical advice, specialist trade stands and more. In addition, Scalefour South West is held in August in conjunction with Railwells in Somerset.
