A Stanier 3P, from the etches released by Judith Edge in the spring of 2020. Various castings have been sourced from Alan Gibson, Comet (Wizard) & Lanarkshire Models.
While sold as etches, and so without instructions, I am indebted to ‘PAD’ on the Western Thunder forum who did a thorough write up of his build of a 7mm version of the etches and I am following his sequence of build.
My build is using CSB sprung suspension, using the High Level hornblocks, and was set out using the High Level drilling jig to a plot suggested by Will Litchfield. Several new (to me) tasks are being tackled, such as rolling a tapered boiler. On this I have completed the relatively simple smokebox & firebox sections, with the next step being the boiler itself.
The loco will be finished as 40112, a Manningham loco regularly sub shedded at Ilkley. Progress has been hampered by trying to complete other projects and a house move, but a deadline is always useful to focus the mind – and these locos were so much part of the furniture at the time the challenge gives a perfect excuse to crack on with it! Visible progress is also slightly behind by bringing in an element of forward planning which will hopefully result in greater leaps forward during the spring.
The build is being covered on the forum, in my workbench area: https://www.scalefour.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=135&t=6856
